The People's Choice Awards, known as the biggest pop culture awards in the U.S., are causing a stir with nominations for popular K-stars like BTS's Jungkook, Stray Kids, TXT, and Korean-American actor Steven Yeun. The 49th edition, where BTS has consistently won in the past, is eagerly anticipated in Korea.
Jungkook has made history with four nominations, matching the record for the most nods for a K-pop solo artist and tying BTS's record. He's up for Pop Artist, New Artist, Male Artist, and Best Collaboration. Notably, in the Pop Artist category, he's the only male nominee competing with strong female artists, making him a standout.
Jungkook has a strong connection with the awards, winning in the 'Group of the Year' category from 2020 to 2022 with BTS and also snagging the Collaboration category in 2022 with 'Left & Right,' a collab with Charlie Puth.
With BTS taking a military leave of absence this year, all eyes are on the K-pop group that will take their place. Reflecting the worldwide trend, Stray Kids and TXT are the two K-pop groups fighting for the top spot in the Group/Duo category.
The People's Choice Awards, known for highlighting cultural phenomena like 'Squid Game,' are also putting the spotlight on Korean-American star Steven Yeun this year. Nominated for 'TV Performance' for the Netflix series 'Beef,' Yeun, who recently won a Golden Globe, is gaining recognition for his work, especially in Korea through films like 'Burning' and 'Minari.'
The 49th People's Choice Awards will air on February 19th (Korean time) on NBC, E! Entertainment channel, and Peacock streaming service.
